The Afterlife Experiments

The Afterlife Experiments
by Gary E. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Gary Schwartz’s The Afterlife Experiments is a very engaging narrative of how a highly respected scientist and researcher decided to consider, in a laboratory setting, the question of whether there is life after death. A natural-born sceptic, Schwartz documents his efforts to design a series of experiments that would comply with rigorous scientific scrutiny but be open, objective and true to whatever the results might be.

The experiment protocol was not his only challenge, he had to find participants – mediums willing to be tested. Convincing a handful of prominent mediums was no easy task, but he did it with John Edward, Suzane Northrup and George Anderson agreeing to participate.

The test conditions were strict and stringently monitored to ensure that the mediums were not engaging in, at best, cold-reading or fraud, at worst. The mediums had no direct contact with and couldn’t even see the people they were reading for. The transcripts of what followed make a riveting, if not shocking read.

Don’t let the words experiment or scientific put you off. Schwartz writes in a way that is very readable and easy to understand. While the tests the mediums were subjected to were very scientific, the author’s style is not and is aimed at a wide audience. But Schwartz also caters to those who want to dig deeper as he provides all the technical documentation and details in the appendices.

Whether you are a sceptic or a believer, The Afterlife Experiments is a must-read!
