Why do we go to psychics?
The other evening I attended a performance by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Royal Opera House here in London. Afterwards, my friends and I hunkered down in Café des Amis - a local watering hole for a post-performance critique and chat.
I was at the end of the table across from Trish - a friend of a friend whom I had only just met. She seemed keen to change the topic from ballet when she looked at me and stated in a tone that was half curiosity and half accusation, "So I hear you're a psychic then." I immediately prepared myself for an interview on how I became a psychic, what it was like to be a psychic - in other words all the usual questions. But the question she wanted answering that night was much more specific, if not more profound:
Why would anyone consult a psychic and get a reading?
To answer this question, I first felt the need to try to define what a psychic reading is. Having given readings for over twenty years, I have come to the conclusion that giving a reading lies somewhere between being a photographer and a weather forecaster. Like a photographer, a reading involves taking a snapshot of someone's life situation. At any given point in one's life a number of influences are at work. And at the time of the reading you click the camera shuttle and take a picture of their present - and by implication their past.
This picture, that is the reading, reveals what's happened in the past and what's taking place now. It's at this point that the analogy to a weather forecaster takes over. Based on the past and present, the psychic then studies the snapshot to predict what's likely to occur in the future.
When a psychic connects to a sitter's energy to make predictions, what comes through is a series of potential outcomes. They are not written in stone and are not 100% certain. Some outcomes are more probable given the influences in one's life at a particular time. And of course, any psychic with integrity would readily admit to being human and may simply get the forecast wrong. Put another way - even a psychic has an "off" day from time to time.
But when it's all going like clockwork - which it does most of the time thankfully - a reading can also uncover fears, stresses, insecurities and traumas that exist as an influencer in the sitter's life, albeit possibly underneath the surface. These emotions create our realities. Like it or not, all of us create our own realities through our thoughts, actions, attitudes - everything we do. And a reading can help you understand how you have participated consciously or unconsciously in determining your current life situation. After all, two heads are better than one and a psychic can give the sitter the objective viewpoint that they are unable to reach unaided, distracted as they tend to be by their everyday lives and worries.
Personally, I strive to make my readings empowering. As such, should a reading point toward a conclusion that you disagree with or isn't satisfactory, then acknowledge your role and accept the responsibility that comes with your choices. The power of free will cannot be underestimated or undervalued. Simply put, change your choices and change your life.
Well, something in my explanation the other night must have struck a chord with Trish - she's just booked her first psychic reading with me.
Until next week,
Kindest regards,
