Okay, you've had your reading — BIG DEAL!

I've been giving readings and offering intuitive insights for - well, for longer than I now care to admit. It's what I do. It's what I love. And it's something that people who come to me find helpful. I feel quite confident in saying this because they keep coming back and because each day I read for new people. This might sound like I'm going to indulge in some serious self-adulation, but bear with me, please.

This past week I found myself wondering:

When is a reading worth reading?

All of you should know by now that I take my job as a psychic and intuitive VERY seriously. I appreciate the impact that a reading can have on someone and understand that I must be very responsible with the words I choose. When I became a lawyer, I took an oath to act with integrity and in a manner that was beyond reproach. And in my opinion, these principles apply equally to my current job.

As such, I consider that one of my duties is to provide specific suggestions and recommendations in my readings. It's something that any psychic worth their salt should do, but unintentionally it seems to have become my unique selling point. Simply telling someone that they are not going to find their true love in the near future isn't enough in my book.

The way a psychic really adds value is to dig beneath the surface and tell the client why the situation is the way it is but most importantly how they can change it. Many of you know how I'm always harping on about free will and about how nothing is written in stone. Yet, it breaks my heart when I find so many of my clients coming back with the same questions and in the same situations.

Essentially, a reading is nothing more than a bunch of words - either spoken or transcribed. It can be long or as short as a single word. But ultimately, a reading is absolutely meaningless unless acted upon. When I was training as a psychic, I sat in a circle in which we were regularly given feedback by our mentoring medium and even by our spirit guides. And what an earful we'd get if it appeared that we weren't taking an active role in our development. It seemed that some of my colleagues thought it would just happen if it was meant to be. Not a single one of them with that mindset developed sufficiently to give readings.

At my other site, IntuitiveBridges, I promote the idea that we must take an active role in our health. Equally, I believe that we cannot lie back passively with the information that comes through a psychic or intuitive reading as if it is somehow going to magically transform our life. A reading is only as powerful as you are willing to let it empower you. It is up to you to take the information in it and translate it into concrete actions to improve your life situation. Just as psychics cannot take your decisions for you, we cannot change your life in the slightest if you aren't willing to get involved.

A good friend of mine, who happens to be one of the best psychics in Britain , is always joking to me that he's never had a bad reading, only bad sitters. Yes, it's a joke but there is a grain of truth in it. It is a two-way street. And your role really comes into play after the reading is complete. What will you do with the information, insights and guidance? Nothing? Then, don't be too surprised when very little (if anything) changes.

The bottom line is that some of us really want to take the insights from a reading and effect change in our lives. But unfortunately, we don't always know where to begin or how to do it.
