Claims of communicating with
dead celebrities must be substantiated!
This past week I came across a front-page article about a medium who has been contacted by an 18th century poet – not just any poet but arguably the most famous of English romantic poetry. The medium, it is claimed, met the dead poet during a simple meditative session. And in their second session, he announced that he was back to collaborate with her to write a book, which had been her lifelong dream.
Whilst reading the article, I recalled hearing about another medium last year who announced that she was receiving visitations from Adolf Hitler. And before that there were the messages from the late princess – you know the one.
Now let me state outright that I am not calling into question the integrity of these mediums or the veracity of their accounts. But I did find myself wondering this week:
With dead celebs, where’s the proof?
In my work as a spirit communicator, I read for people who come to me seeking messages from those who have crossed over to the other side. I cannot, nor do I know of anyone who can, summon the dead. What I do is I still my mind and listen out for images and feelings. These are sensations and symbols that do not belong to me but are instead relevant to my client.
When the communication is properly established, it isn’t one-way – it is a dialogue. I not only ask for information but I ask for clarification. No-one is going to be satisfied with me saying that I’ve got their late grandmother and that she says hello. No, they challenge me. They want to hear what she looked like and what type of person she was. And they want to hear something that only their grandmother would know about so that they can be sure.
What they want is evidence of the survival of spirit after the body ceases to exist. They want proof. They are sceptical and they ought to be. Proof is different things to different people; it’s personal. The one thing for sure, however, is that it isn’t something that I could have known about them or gleaned from them during the reading.
I am proud to say that most of my clients are down-to-earth, ordinary people. They aren’t celebrities or people with names that you’d recognise. And the majority of my work is done remotely by email or over the phone. In fact, I have never actually seen many of those for whom I read. “So what?” I hear you ask. Well, it means that I don’t have to worry about anything I might have read or heard about my client, or even the physical impression people make when you meet them. It’s a tabula rasa if you will.
Reading for the famous, when you know that they are famous, brings its own complications. The standard of proof is of a different order. Your celebrity sitter is understandably going to discount any communication that sounds like it could have come from a Google search. In these instances, the medium has to be willing to push the communicating spirit for more – to get the proof that will convince the client.
To be sure, it’s a demanding standard. But when there is no client – when the spirit communication is spontaneous and from someone who was famous, particularly someone who appears to have a habit of communicating through mediums – the bar is even higher. Evidence must still be supplied and it must be verified. This is an essential criterion of spirit communication, not an optional one.
I’m quite grateful that I’ve not been tested by such a spontaneous communication from someone famous. But if it does happen, I trust that I will be able to avoid the temptation of shouting it out to the world without facts that can be verified and authenticated.
Merely saying that a gentleman called Adolf has come through regretting his decision to invade Poland will not convince me for one that the communication was genuine. Perhaps I’m unduly cynical, but I know that my clients certainly deserve more when they come to me for a consultation.
As always, feel free to email me with any comments, suggestions or feedback on PsychicBridges.
Thanks again for all your support and until next week,
Kindest regards,
