The Spirit of Christmas can be with you any time of year!
Have you noticed this year how it seems that the closer we get to the festive season, some of us become anything but festive? It’s as if some of our brothers and sisters have actually developed an allergy to Christmas – and all that it stands for.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that the message of the season can get confusing, if not completely lost. In Spain, our supermarkets are packed with specialty chocolates – curiously available only at this time of the year. Does this mean it’s Christmas?
When I was last in Britain, all the buzz was about the M&S television advert with Dame Shirley belting it out to get the party started. So, is that it? Does that mean it’s Christmas? Or has Christmas arrived when acts like the singing sheep of Cumbria make it into the charts? So tacky that it must mean it’s Christmas, right?
I’ve come to the conclusion that too many of us seem to go on auto-pilot from November until mid-January when our regularly scheduled programming and lives resume. We all know the signs. The decorations go up. The cards go out. And shopping becomes something worthy of military planning and combat gear.
Our challenge is to make sure we’re not simply going through motions. We must awake ourselves from what I’ve come to call seasonal sleepwalking.
I’ve found that the week leading up to Christmas is second only to the beginning of the year for psychics. People seek insight and guidance on how to handle perhaps the most stressful time of year. This is the time of year when clients tend to look back. As such, they find themselves taking stock of their lives.
This past week one reading in particular stood out. My client was a lovely young woman who like so many of us was struggling to find some meaning in all the extra responsibility the season had hoisted upon her. After connecting with her energy, the images were coming fast and furious – but one stood out. I kept hearing a child’s voice – soft and pure – singing what sounded like Christmas carols.
At this point, it would have been easy for me to have dismissed this image, confusing it for the carols I had heard earlier in the day on the radio. But as my teachers and mentors always said – share everything you get with your clients. And boy, am I glad I did.
I developed the image clairvoyantly for my client to the point that she instantly recognised it. You see, it turns out that she and her mother used to visit nursing homes when she was very young. They would spend time with those residents who no longer received regular visits. And as part of their visit, there would be something of a performance for the staff and patients. She would sing while her mother accompanied her on the piano.
Until her reading, she had long forgotten about those visits. She explained that it had been nearly thirty-five years ago. But just like that it all came rushing back. While they had visited homes throughout the year, she suddenly understood that this was what Christmas was all about. And it was as if the complexity in her life had been magically replaced with simplicity. All became clear to her.
My client’s acts of kindness wonderfully and beautifully embodied the spirit of Christmas. By giving from the heart without expecting anything in return each of us can experience the joy that carols sing of and that the cards refer to. Best of all, we don’t have to wait for Christmas – it’s ours for the taking (or rather giving) every day of the year.
If visiting a nursing home isn’t your cup of tea, then why not volunteer at a local centre to feed the homeless and hungry? Or, make an anonymous donation to charity. Alternatively, collect that litter by the side of the road that you pass every day. It doesn’t have to be hard. And it doesn’t have to be expensive. All that matters is that it’s from the heart.
So, if you are feeling a little detached from the season and more like Jacob Marley than Tiny Tim, then consider an act of true heartfelt kindness. Trust me when I say that you’ll find yourself miraculously reconnected and understanding what it’s all about.
I wish each and every one of you a very happy holiday with all the joy this season has to offer!
Perhaps there’s someone close to you who could do with a helping hand, someone who needs to rediscover what it’s all about? Well, if you are still searching for that perfect gift this Christmas, why not give the gift of insight? It’s eco-friendly, ethical and fun. Most importantly, it could literally change the recipient’s life FOREVER. Find out how easy it is to give a reading here.
