Ethical Psychics — Worth Their Weight in Gold!
Over the past week, a number of you wrote me to relate your encounters with what I tend to think of as the dark side of the psychic industry. My heart reached out as I read about how deaths were predicted, dreams shattered and thinly veiled attempts made at extortion. While I was horrified, I have to say that I wasn’t that surprised.
One particularly poignant letter was from this lovely woman who had been given so much doom and gloom in the past from psychics that she wanted an assurance that I would only convey positive messages during her reading with me.
As with any sector, there are the professionals and real McCoy’s. Then there are the frauds and the unscrupulous. And in between these two extremes there is every combination. Like I said, it’s just like any other business.
When I was in law school, I was required to take several classes on ethics, morality as well as training on how to provide guidance and counselling. You see, the attorney-client relationship must be one of the most defined and regulated professional relationships out there.
Regulatory bodies and licensing boards set out clear-cut and explicit codes of professional conduct for lawyers. Fall foul of the rules and you could find yourself disbarred, fined – or even arrested. Needless to say, how I conducted myself with my clients was always at the forefront of my mind.
But unlike lawyers, psychics do not have a body to which they can look for such a code of conduct. There is no organisation establishing the rules to govern the behaviour of psychics. And all things being equal, it’s probably best that there isn’t such a regulatory board. Yet because there isn’t, each psychic must develop their own code of practice. They must grapple with the ethical dilemmas that arise during readings and decide for themselves what is and is not acceptable.
Unfortunately, my observation is that too many psychics haven’t given sufficient consideration to ethics, much less to establishing their personal code of practice. They appear more interested in the doing rather than the developing. Just as in so many other areas of our fast-f00d society, few seem willing to do what’s necessary to call themselves “a true professional”.
We’ve all heard the expression that a little knowledge can be a bad thing. It’s my observation that a little psychic ability can be just as, if not more, dangerous. Being able to connect with another’s energy doesn’t mean you are ready to read for them – for money or otherwise.
In the process of giving a psychic reading, anything can happen. And it’s possibly the only instance in which two total strangers can come together in minutes and be discussing matters so personal and intimate that perhaps no other person on the planet may be aware of them. This is more the rule than the exception.
When I was starting out as a professional psychic, my mentor Madalyn Aslan advised me that above all I had to protect my integrity. “Once you’ve lost that; you’ve lost everything.” I have kept her wise words in my heart and reflect upon them before every reading I perform.
To be sure, it’s essential that your psychic have a sense of integrity and consider it something of value to be protected. It’s also key that your psychic understand their significance in your life and the influence that they possess.
When I was a lawyer, I always acted in a manner that was consistent with my client’s best interests. And it’s to this standard that I continue to hold myself as I work as a professional psychic.
Another vital element is confidentiality. I often read for people who through their questions and by allowing me to connect to their energy are opening themselves up – wounds and all. They feel safe and secure to be totally honest because they trust me to keep what they have shared and what I have sensed completely confidential.
In the corporate world, you cannot get away with presenting problems without solutions. The same should apply with equal force to psychic readings. Telling someone that they are struggling is nine times out of ten stating the obvious. The skill comes in analysing and assessing the information perceived from the client and suggesting a way forward.
You might say that the ethical psychic does more than just read for their client, they empower their client. And that’s just what I aim to do. Whenever I read for a client, I always strive to offer clear insights to explain why they are where they are. But more importantly, I aim to draw out the options that available to them so that they can make better decisions in their lives.
So if you’ve had a bad experience or have never had a reading before but would like to see what all the fuss is about, then check out what my clients say about their readings here and select the reading that best suits your needs here. A reading with me could bring the answers and advice that have been eluding you.
Over at IntuitiveBridges, I have a look at energy from a different perspective and ask you to consider where your energy is going. It’s a question you can’t afford not to answer. Read my article in full here!
