This past week I read for a number of American clients who have been caught up in the woes of the US real-estate market. Understandably they, like everyone affected, wanted to know what the future holds in store for them – and their houses. To be sure, it’s in times like this that we can feel as if everyone is turning their backs on us. But we must remember that we are never truly alone.

Before we were born, each of us was aware of what we needed to accomplish and to learn in this lifetime. And to give ourselves the best chance of success, we assembled, selected and contracted with a team of guides who committed to be with us each step of the way.

While we don’t remember making those arrangements, we did. And the members of the teams we put together are there around us, offering us a guiding and supportive hand in the good times and in the bad times – especially in the bad times. All we have to do is to reach out, ask for help and listen up when it’s given – and yes, it’s always given.

Our respective teams will be made up of a unique combination of spirit guides and angels. Now, let’s just clarify the difference between an angel and a spirit guide. A spirit guide will be a non-corporeal being that was once human. He or she will be someone who was once flesh and bones and walked the earth. What makes them special and so wise is that they reached an appropriate level of enlightenment such that they now guide people like you and me.

Throughout our lives, guides will come and go. Some will stay with us for years. Others will pop in and out of our lives with a flash, being charged with helping us through a particular challenge. Some will teach us. Others are charged with bringing us messages or protection. The key, however, is to remember that they once had a human, physical form.

Unlike spirit guides, angels were never human. Angels too are beings of light. But you might say that theirs is a light lighter than spirit guides. They serve to help us develop a deeper connection with the Divine and in so doing help us to be all that we can be. And it’s my observation that angels tend to be more focused on our spiritual side and development than spirit guides. But, of course, as in so many things in life drawing a hard and fast line between them is difficult as the assistance they have to offer can appear to overlap.

The main thing to remember is that each of us has spirit guides and angels just waiting to help us. In fact, they’ve been advising us every moment of our lives. It’s just that we are often too busy to listen.

By working with our guides, we can learn firsthand that life is a cycle that never ends. We can reconnect with loved ones to whom we said good-bye in their physical forms. Our guides have countless lessons on how to become more spiritual and less obsessed by the material trappings. They bring us inspiration. And they bring us solutions.

Whether or not we are conscious of it, each of us already works with our guides. Even if we don’t meditate, pray or reach out to them, they still speak to us through our dreams, intuition and through what can only be described as a sudden knowingness. But to truly take advantage of all they have to offer, we must put some effort in too. We have to learn how to still our minds and raise our consciousness. You might say that it’s only respectful to try to meet them halfway.

If you’re not already working with your guides, then I urge you to start. And the best way to do this is to simply ask. Set aside some time. Sit quietly. Focus on your breathing and let the worries of the day float away. Then silently ask for your guides to come close. Actually invite them into your energy. And whether or not you feel them, trust and know that they are there and simply ask for their assistance with whatever it might be that you could use some assistance for.

Once the request is made, you can be sure that it’s been heard and that your team is on the case. And it’s my experience that answers come very quickly. In other words, you might get a flash of insight right then and there. Other times some strange “coincidence” might lead you in a certain direction where you find the answer you’ve been looking for. Of course, however, I have to say that it might not be the answer you had been hoping for. But answers, nonetheless, always come.

If you’re experiencing some difficulties in your life, know that you aren’t alone. You always have your guides all around you just waiting to offer you whatever guidance and assistance you need. And if you’re ticking along just fine, don’t forget the great resource you have at your disposal. Either way, we should always strive to improve our connection and relationship with our guides.
