Can we be cursed by fate or doomed by destiny?

It’s my experience that this week is when people really look at themselves and their lives to consider what changes are needed for the year ahead. I know that everyone thinks that this happens at the beginning of the New Year but that’s a time of year when there’s so much going on that people don’t really have an opportunity to detach themselves as fully as such self-examination requires.

The beginning of March, however, is a point when everyone seems to simultaneously take a deep breath and go to that place of objectivity and openness to consider what life could be like and how things could be.

Recognising that we’ve been sleepwalking through life is one thing. Doing something about it, while essential, is something else entirely. And this is when the victim inside each of us appears to say that we aren’t to blame and that it’s down to fate or destiny – to be in a bad relationship or alone, to be in debt or to be unhappy.

Can it be this simple? Are some of us put on this earth to go through pain and misery? And are we powerless to do anything about it? Put simply:

Can we be cursed by fate or doomed by destiny?

This week I want to try to explain how I’ve come to see fate and destiny. These days the terms are unfortunately used interchangeably. This is a mistake and leads to much of the misunderstanding. The concepts, while related, are very different.

I have come to understand and appreciate that our lives do not begin the moment we are born. Life begins earlier than that. It’s even earlier than the moment of conception. Our lives begin in a spiritual and energetic realm when our soul decides to continue its journey and once again incarnate in human form. This decision is accompanied by an intentional and purposeful arrangement of events and people that we will encounter after we are born. This is what fate is.

Fate is that map, that series of milestones each of us possesses as we walk through life. Fate will lead us to places, to people, to relationships, to situations and even to jobs. It’s true that we may be drawn by fate to experience pain as well as pleasure. And fate will challenge us to the very depths of our soul.

But fate does not condemn us to a predetermined conclusion – for better or for worse. Fate isn’t a sentence. Fate isn’t the ending. Fate leads us to situations and opportunities for us to show what we are made of. And to do this, we are each given an amazingly powerful tool with which we navigate our path through the events, situations and adventures that were arranged pre-birth. This tool is called free will.

Free will is our power to make choices. Free will is our ability to react and to influence our lives in the most direct and potent way. By using our free will we are able to take responsibility and to exert control. In so doing, we become conscious of the consequences of choices we have made in the past and the power of our choices in the present. And this is where destiny comes in.

Destiny is our potential. You might say that fate gives us the ingredients but that destiny is what we make of them. Destiny is the destination we arrive at when we act responsibly, honourably and consciously.

Following one’s destiny isn’t easy. It’s hard work. It takes discipline and it takes courage. But for most of us there will come a time when it’s no longer an option to ignore our destiny. How do we know when we are being encouraged to follow our destiny?

For some of us we will simply feel that something is missing. Others of us will experience the call through illness. And others still will simply wake up one day and appreciate that they cannot do things as they’ve been doing. When it happens, no matter how it happens, business as usual simply is no longer an option.

If you feel that you’re on autopilot, that you’re sleepwalking or that you’re hiding behind fate when you should be following your destiny, then perhaps I can help.

I work with clients every day to connect and read their energies. I sense what’s working and what’s not working in their lives. I teach them how to become aware of their thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and emotions in such a way that they see what’s missing. Perhaps I can help you with a Relationship Reading, a Career Reading, a Life Reading or through my Intuitive Life Coaching. After all, life is too short and too precious not to be the person that you could be!

This week over at IntuitiveBridges, I look at some recent research that suggests that sugar pills are as effective and powerful as mind-altering antidepressants at making us feel better. What does this mean for you? Read my article here and find out!

As always, feel free to email me with any comments, suggestions or feedback on PsychicBridges.

Thanks again for all your support and until next week,

Kindest regards,
