Your Psychic Says... by Alan Bridges

Monday 1 September 2008

  Alan Bridges is PsychicBridges
From psychic scams to psychics being scammed!

Here's our topic — let's discuss in Psychic Chat!

By now we have all heard about the new legislation in force in Britain regarding psychics, mediums and healers. It’s good-bye to the Fraudulent Mediums Act and hello to the Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. The government rightly felt that the public needed additional safeguards to be protected from the unscrupulous and their psychic scams. But now it’s the psychics themselves who are being targeted.

I predicted years ago that we psychics would come to appreciate that the popularity we have enjoyed for the past few years would turn out to be something of a double-edged sword. Was my prediction psychic? Or was it more of a cynical observation of human nature? It doesn’t really matter. Either way, it’s come true with those proverbial chickens returning home to roost.

For some time the public has had an insatiable appetite for all things paranormal. Television programmes have featured every angle of being psychic from psychic schools and searches for the so-called best psychic to ghost-busting and even a psychic version of C.S.I. It sometimes seems that you can’t get away from psychics on TV.

Occasionally what’s portrayed on TV resembles what it’s really like to be a professional psychic. But more often than not it’s simply entertainment designed to score high ratings in what’s become big business. And where there’s big business conmen are sure to follow.

We’ve all heard of the letters and emails from bogus clairvoyants preying on the vulnerable with promises of unbelievable and equally undeliverable miracles. Such scams are despicable and consumers should be protected from them.

But recently it’s become evident that now psychics themselves are being targeted by tricksters.

One type of con plays on the human weakness of a psychic to have his or her 15-minutes of fame. A TV executive or reporter contacts a psychic or a medium with an offer of a flattering interview or puff-piece profile. But once consent has been obtained, the programme or article turns out to be a hatchet-job exposé.

I myself have been contacted by reporters and producers with such offers. Thankfully, my intuition has served me well and I’ve seen straight through them only to see or read about someone I know being suckered in.

I am all too happy for the true frauds to be exposed. But I fear that some genuine psychics could be duped into difficult situations at best and outright traps at worst. So, to all my colleagues out there, don’t let the stars in your eyes blind your inner sight.

Another kind of scam out there at the moment is based on the new legislation itself and plays on the lack of understanding and confusion about the law. Like so many scams, it arrives in one’s inbox in the form of an unsolicited email. It purports to be from a company that has been set up to offer genuine mediums insurance against lawsuits from clients under the new consumer protection legislation.

The catch is that the new legislation does not create a legal cause of action for clients to sue their psychics. That right is reserved and retained by the trading standards office. So, again, my psychic friends, don’t fall for this one either. (If you want my take on the legislation, read my past article here.)

I suppose the moral to the story is that there is always someone somewhere who’s looking to con you out of your hard-earned money – be you someone with car trouble, someone needing to get work done on your house, someone seeking psychic advice or even the psychic yourself.

So, be streetwise and keep your wits about you. When someone gives you advice, don’t simply take it. Ask yourself how well it sits with you. Remember all the times that you have looked back and said with the benefit of hindsight, “I knew something wasn’t right.”

And when, if, you need to find a psychic, again go with your common sense as well as your gut. Find someone reputable and someone who’s been around the block a few times. Exercise all the caution you would when seeking other professional services – do a bit of research, ask around, etc.

If you’re thinking of a reading, check out my background and take a look at the readings I offer. Perhaps I am the psychic that you’ve been looking for. From the testimonials I receive, my clients seem to think so!

With my readings, I aim not just to be accurate but to guide my clients so that they are in a stronger position of knowledge and power after the reading than they were before it.

If you’ve never had such a reading, then you owe it to yourself to book a reading with me. Check out my range of psychic services here. A reading with me could bring the answers, advice and insight that have been eluding you for far too long.

Please join me in my Psychic Chat forums and let’s get the discussion flowing. Tell me what you think about psychics now being targeted by the scam artists.

And finally this week over at IntuitiveBridges, I encourage my readers to take a hard look at their belief systems. If you want to change your life, then it's a must read. Check out my article here!

As always, feel free to email me with any comments, suggestions or feedback on PsychicBridges!

Thanks again for all your support and until next week,

Kindest regards,

Alan
