Your Psychic Says... by Alan Bridges

Monday 12 January 2009

  Alan Bridges is PsychicBridges
Why don't we know what to do?

Here's our topic — let's discuss in Psychic Chat!

More than ever I am getting requests for readings from people who have reached points in their lives when they simply don’t know what to do. These are grown, educated, highly intelligent and, more often than not, heretofore successful individuals. But something has happened out there and it’s left those, who are otherwise compos mentis, scratching their heads.

To be sure, all of us arrive at such crossroads now and again. But it really seems to me that large numbers of us in society are going through something of a crisis of confidence in our own ability to make decisions for ourselves.

I couldn’t help but wonder if the current economic conditions have spilled over and somehow shaken us to our spiritual core.

All threats of and measure to counter terrorism aside, we still have to acknowledge that those of us in the western world enjoy more freedoms than ever before. The political social movements of the Sixties and Seventies produced nothing short of liberation for many.

Then in the Eighties and Nineties, additional previously rock-solid boundaries of religion and other outdated traditions crumbled. Even economic groups and classes that, until then, had no voice began making themselves heard. And just like that consumerism became the name of the game.

No longer did we worry about putting food in our bellies. Instead, we sought to fill our homes with the latest, greatest and BIGGEST. Where did this insatiable appetite for things come from? Was it unavoidable? Was it connected with the speed at which society had changed in other areas?

Sure, somewhere along the way the perspective shifted from the group to the individual. Decision-making went from taking into account considerations about us to me. We were suddenly no longer selfish to focus on the self. We wanted things – things to which we felt we had a right – and we wanted them now.

And arguably, that worked for us for at least a decade. However, that way of life seems to be under threat despite the best efforts of our governments and world’s financial institutions.

So, what do we do when we can no longer have our things? Who are we if we don’t have satellite television? What kind of person have we become if we don’t have the newest gadget? Granted, I am framing the questions differently. But in essence, these are the sorts of queries I’m getting since the economy hit the skids.

If you ask me, the writing is on the wall. It’s time to tend to those spiritual chickens that are coming home to roost. It’s time to consider how to live and how to make choices in a new way. It’s all about how we thrive when we cannot have what we want when we want it.

I am contacted on a regular basis by people who now see their lives in a house that requires a whopping great big mortgage and all the trappings that come with at risk. And they know that something needs to change but they haven’t got a clue about what.

At some level many of these people appreciate that they need to do more with less. Indeed the more so-called enlightened of them may even recognise that something is missing in spiritual terms. They may read some book or even get a reading. But when it comes to actually making a change in their lives, they can’t seem to do it – even if they could identify what needed to change.

I’ve come to believe that most of us, if not all of us, know exactly what they want to do in their lives and know what needs to take place to “fix” their lives. However, because they cannot be guaranteed a “safe passage” to the next stage in their life, they would rather remain where they are.

Oh, they will tell me that they don’t know. Yet when I tune into their energy, I sense the desire to return to school, start a business, etc. What they want me to do is to tell them that it will all work out, there will be plenty of money and that true love will fall into their arms. Naturally, this is something that I cannot do – unless that’s exactly what I perceive.

It seems to me that we are so scared of what might happen that we opt out. We remain just where we are because we are afraid that somewhere else could be worse. In other words, by being so afraid of failure, we paralyse our ability to make choices.

How many of you out there know that something is wrong in your lives or that something is missing? You know that something needs to change and yet you feel that you have no option but to remain as you where you are. I hear this a lot – in fact more and more – the refrain of no options and no choices.

I’m starting to think, however, that actually the opposite is the case. I’m becoming increasingly convinced that we simply have too many choices in our lives. Moreover, my question to you is whether it could be that because we have so many things going on in our lives at any one moment and so many paths that we could travel that we are somehow blinded or cannot see the wood for the trees.

If you are standing at a crossroads in your life wondering what to do, I encourage you to try to eliminate the distractions in your life for a time. Personally, I climb a mountain near my farm and sit there until my head clears. That’s me. For you, it might be going for a stroll in a park or maybe listening to a Beethoven symphony. The key is to eliminate the noise so that you can hear what your life is trying to tell you.

Sometimes the big choices are too big. That’s okay. When, if, that’s the case, I encourage you to start out small and build up – take baby steps. If you’re not quite ready to take the leap all on your own, then of course I will be willing to assist and offer the insights that I perceive to guide you. I don’t like to think that I’m doing it for you. But I’ll do whatever I can to work with you.

Have a look at my readings or consider a one-on-one Intuitive Life Coaching Session. Or perhaps a Year Ahead Reading might be what you need to get an objective, detached but psychic analysis of what’s to come.

And this week over at IntuitiveBridges, I consider a new drug that could stimulate self-healing. To me, it’s a good first step, but I was left wanting more. Read my article in full here!

As always, feel free to email me with any comments, suggestions or feedback on PsychicBridges. And don’t forget to join me and the rest of the PsychicBridges community in the Psychic Chat forums!

Thanks again for all your support and until next week,

Kindest regards,

Alan
