It's time to notice the miracles in our lives!
Here's our topic — let's discuss in Psychic Chat!
This week I would like to start by sharing the opening lines of a poem by one of America’s greatest poets, Walt Whitman.
Why, who makes much of a miracle?
As to me I know of nothing else but miracles…
Miracles by Walt Whitman
I recently returned to and rediscovered the poetry of Whitman. He wrote during some turbulent and very troubled times when many felt that America had lost its way. This was a time when the consciousness of a people had to get to grips with what democracy meant and who was to be equal and free. But instead of lecturing, preaching or even chastising, Whitman encouraged people through his poetry to celebrate life – and indeed see the everyday miracles in their lives.
A simple stroll in Manhattan could be a miracle to Whitman. He reminds us in this poem of the breathtaking beauty and bewitching wonder of a skyline, of walking barefoot in a stream, of relaxing in the shade of a tree, of sitting down for a nice meal, of seeing people he has not nor ever will meet and of observing the show that nature is constantly putting on for us every second of the day. Such is the material of miracles for Whitman.
Here in the mountains of Spain, there is suddenly an autumn chill in the air. The leaves are increasingly covering the country lanes. If you listen closely, you can hear walnuts and chestnuts falling from the trees. And pretty soon, the nearby peaks in the Picos de Europa and Somiedo national parks will once again be artistically capped with snow. In my day-to-day life, I feel that these are the things that Whitman would deem as miracles.
To be sure, each of us always has had and always will have struggles, frustrations and disappointments in life. I am no exception to this. After all, the newspapers seem to delight in telling us how bad things are. And the so-called experts pontificate with their prognostications of doom and gloom.
Haven’t you had enough? I certainly have. And that’s why I felt that I was drawn to this wonderfully inspiring poem. Reading Miracles helped remind me that there’s always more good than bad in life. It is, of course, not necessarily immediately obvious. The miracles in our lives are frequently the things that we’ve taken for granted or, worse yet, let lapse into the oblivion of our daily grind.
Instead, all too often we end up focussing on the less miraculous elements of our lives – the daily commute, the office politics, the stress of juggling work and family, the uncertainty of where we’re going next in our lives.
I encourage each of you to read Miracles, which you can do via this link. Then, step back and compose a list of the miracles in your life. Ask yourself what you have to be grateful for and what you should notice and appreciate more in your life. Whether it’s something small and apparently insignificant (the leaves turning colour in next door’s back garden, the first whiff of autumn wood smoke) or the big things we should always be thankful for when we find them in our lives (friends, hope, happiness), start on that list today. It doesn’t have to be poetry, just jot it down however you can.
This sounds easy. For some of you, it will be. For others, you may need a gentle and guiding hand to get to that point. Perhaps I can help. Life can be overwhelming and finding our way can be like trying to find that proverbial needle in the haystack. These days more and more people are contacting me for readings to help them see the light in their lives. They’ve not lost faith but they have lost their way.
When I read for my clients, I offer them clairvoyant and intuitive insights to identify what is right in front of them but for whatever reason they seem to have overlooked. For me it’s about showing them the options that there were all along. It’s about giving them hope. It’s about revealing the miracles in their lives.
If life is getting you down, then you might wish to consider a reading with me. And if you feel that you need something more hands-on and intensive, then perhaps some Intuitive Life Coaching might be what you’re drawn to.
Whether you begin to notice the miracles in your life on your own or with the assistance of someone like me, I do hope that you will read Miracles by Walt Whitman and join me in the forums to let me know what you think of it.
And finally this week over at IntuitiveBridges, I consider an approach to life that is over 150 years old but seems incredibly relevant today. Are you self-reliant? It's a question that you need to answer. Read my article here!
